  • Saemangeum Shinhang (new port) construction As a core infrastructure facility, Saemangeum Shinhang (new port) was planned as part of the 'Saemangeum comprehensive development plan' to help the region become an economic and logistics hub in Northeast Asia. A total of four berths are planned for phase 1 of the project until 2020 to process the transportation of goods produced at the industrial complexes within the Saemangeum region. Phase 2 includes the construction of 14 berths including an exclusive pier for DWT 80,000 ton cruise liners bringing the total number of berths to 18.

    At present, a seawall is being constructed to secure calmer waters within the new port. Construction works for the seawall are expected to continue through 2016.
